LOCKWOOD / SAN LUCAS, Monterey County — October 28, 2026. The Transportation Agency for Monterey County lists a planned traffic restriction on U.S. Highway 101 between Lockwood/San Lucas Road and State Route 198 through Friday, October 30.
According to TAMC’s Cone Zone report for October 25–31, northbound and southbound traffic will encounter a one-lane closure for drainage cleaning, with scheduled work hours of 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and anticipated delays of up to 10 minutes.
Why it matters for rural residents
Highway 101 is a key north–south route for residents of the San Lucas and Lockwood areas and for trips to King City and other Salinas Valley communities. A daytime work zone can affect appointments, freight deliveries and school or work commutes. The roadwork description does not indicate that the highway is fully closed in both directions.
Weather, construction progress and traffic control can change without advance warning. Before driving, review the official TAMC Cone Zone report, Caltrans QuickMap and local traffic signs. Do not rely on a schedule notice as real-time proof that a closure is active.
Editorial note: This is a separate corridor from the Highway 1 Torre Canyon and Mud Creek restrictions. Future updates about the same U.S. 101 drainage work will be added here rather than published as duplicates in San Lucas News.
