LOCKWOOD, Monterey County — October 29, 2026. A county capital-improvement plan identifies a long roadway rehabilitation corridor relevant to residents traveling between Lockwood, Mission Road and U.S. 101. Project No. 1182, Jolon Road Rehabilitation, covers approximately 27 miles of county-maintained roadway from the southern U.S. 101 interchange toward a point approximately 5.7 miles north of Mission Road.

What repairs are envisioned?

The project description calls for localized pavement repairs and resurfacing with hot-mix asphalt to extend the road’s useful life. It concerns the existing road surface and does not announce a new freeway or bypass.

What is funded?

According to Monterey County’s five-year Capital Improvement Plan for fiscal years 2026–27 through 2030–31, the preliminary engineering and planning phase is fully funded through Measure X. The project is listed in the design/planning phase. That is not equivalent to a final construction contract for every mile.

Is this the same as other Jolon Road projects?

No. The 27-mile pavement rehabilitation program is distinct from the localized 2026 blade-overlay work near Mission and Argyle roads and from the county’s separate federal grant application for a Jolon Road safety project reported previously by California58. They are different procurement and funding records, even though they share the Jolon Road corridor.

Are there lane closures today?

The capital plan does not provide live lane restrictions for October 29. Commuters should follow county road-closure bulletins and posted traffic-control signage. Before attributing a particular patched section to this project, residents should request a current design plan and construction schedule.

What should Lockwood residents watch?

Useful milestones include completed designs, funding appropriations for construction, exact limits and sections selected for work, environmental compliance and the eventual contractor award. These records will show when a general capital plan becomes a physical roadway project.
